One great thing I’m taking from this experience is that I’m actually saving money by using eco-friendly products. If I do the math of how much I spend on one-time-use items vs. reusable items (even if some reusable items are a little more expensive at first), I realize that I’m saving money!

Small changes can make a big difference. Even if we use only one eco-friendly item at home, it means one less thing in the landfills. An eco-friendly product also means fewer chemicals-based products in our homes.

Fabric Shower Curtain Liner

The majority of the plastic shower curtain liners are made from vinyl/PVC. This material cannot be decomposed, so it’s not biodegradable.

Fabric shower curtain liners are a great eco-friendly option. I have been using them for years now.

Fabric shower curtain liner Benefits

  • Machine washable
  • Reusable
  • Since we wash them more frequently, it is less likely to grow mold.
  • Soft fabric
  • PVC free

How do I use my shower fabric curtains at home?

I have used fabric curtains for years, and they performed really well. I usually buy two and change them every two weeks. This means each curtain (remember I have two curtains) is been washed once a month in the washing machine! Because of this system, the durability of each of them extends for a long time.

By using this fabric shower curtain, I saved time because I didn’t need to wash any plastic in the shower. I save money because the fabric shower liners last for a long time in my experience (between 2-3 years or more, depending on the fabric). Also, I avoid breathing the fumes from the chemicals in vinyl curtains.

Eco-friendly Bamboo Toothbrush

I used to use an electric toothbrush because my dentist recommended it for my sensitive gums. When it was time for me to buy the replacement top part of my electric toothbrush, it was the perfect time to try an eco-friendly product!

So, I bought a bamboo toothbrush! Let me share some benefits I have found using this bamboo toothbrush over the years.

Bamboo Toothbrush Benefits

  • It is soft (so it doesn’t hurt my gums).
  • Inexpensive in comparison to my electric toothbrush
  • I don’t need to find an electric outlet next time I take it with me on a trip.

Eco-friendly Bamboo Toothbrush Base

Yes, now that I have a bamboo toothbrush, it doesn’t stand by itself. I needed to buy a base, so I decided to try an eco-friendly one.

This Bamboo Toothbrush Stand is super tiny. It works perfectly with this kind of toothbrush. This stand has a small hole in the middle for the water to flow, which makes sense; if not, the water standing on the base will create mold. However, as the water flows, it wet the counter, so it will be important to add a small plate under this base or to use a solid base brush stand.

Reusable Makeup Remover Pads

Single-use cotton pads/balls may use bleach to make them smooth and compact. Also, if the cotton is not organic, this means that they may use pesticides on the plants they are getting the cotton from.

I use these reusable makeup remover pads to apply toner to my face at night and for makeup removal.

These makeup remover pads come with a little mesh bag that you can use to keep them together in the washer machine.

This product worked really well as makeup removal. After washing them, I could see the makeup base washed really well, but the eyeliner left a small mark. I do like this product; they are soft and reusable.

I hope these Eco-friendly Bathroom Products – easy swaps inspire you to try an eco-friendly alternative! Tell me if you are using any of these products or if you have another one that you would like to share.

  1. Great ideas! I just got a bamboo tooth brush too and I’m excited to use it. I used to be a dental assistant and electric toothbrushes are totally unnecessary! A manual one does the job just fine.

    1. Thank you Errika! I already switched the entire family to the bamboo option, we are really happy too 🙂
