Amazing sustainable personal care products

As we continue this journey to a more eco-friendly lifestyle living in the city, we found ways to swap our regular personal care products for a more sustainable alternative.

Realizing that eco-friendly, natural, and sustainable products work great by trying them has been an amazing experience.

These swaps have been made progressively. We buy them when we need to replace them because they don’t work anymore or we run out of products like soap or shampoos.

We have talked about the different ways we have changed (or made) our products for a more eco-friendly alternative through the years; from homemade products like our all-purpose cleaner to eco-friendly products like our bamboo toothbrush, which we repurpose after its life cycle and make garden labels with the frame.

But what about personal care products? These are products we use daily or frequently. Here, I will share some sustainable personal care swaps we have made through the years that have worked great for us.

Sustainable personal care products for the shower

Shower products are used daily. As we are trying to reduce the number of plastic products we buy for our home, we swapped our shower brush for one that has a wood handle.

Talking about showers, we need to include soaps. We like to buy handmade soaps from local vendors as much as possible. These are beautiful handcrafted soaps made with natural ingredients; some even include flowers and delicious aromas.

When we buy soaps at the supermarket, we try to look at the ingredients, making sure they contain as many natural ingredients as possible.

Dental Floss

We have talked about bamboo toothbrushes in our easy bathroom swaps post. So I would like to talk about another eco-friendly product we use daily, dental floss.

These vegan, biodegradable floss comes in a stainless steel container and can be refilled. Refills are sold separately. You need to consider that some dental floss is not suitable for teeth with very little space in between. But I have this problem with regular floss, so you need to try to find the one that works better for you.

Deodorant

As you know, I make our deodorants at home, and it works great! But with our busy life, I always like to have an alternative at home in case I run out of our homemade deodorant and with no time to make a new one.

We have tried this plant-based deodorant that comes in an eco-friendly container several times, which has worked really well.

Shaving sustainable personal care products

Part of the sustainable personal care products that we have tried is the shaving soap and stainless steel safety razors.

The shaving soap has been a life-changing experience for me. Not sure I will go back to the old shave gel with a metal dispenser. The shave soap works great, last longer, and comes in an eco-friendly package. So what not to love about it?

In regards to the razors, stainless steel razors are great. Metals are durable; we just need to change the blades, and they are easy to use. Personally, I also like the elegant looks that it brings.

Cotton Swabs

These bamboo cotton swabs are 100% biodegradable. They are soft, and we can find them in our local supermarket.

The beauty of these eco-friendly swaps is that I have seen more sustainable personal care product alternatives in supermarkets and pharmacies than I have ever seen before, which have helped to make the transition even easier.

As time passes, I see how the industry is adapting little by little to this new, more conscious way of manufacturing.
