How to Make a Homemade Whipped Body Butter
This homemade whipped body butter is perfect for the winter season. Easy to make, it leaves my hands soft and nourished with a delicious aroma of lavender.
I like to make my homemade body butter, it’s super easy to make, and I know which ingredients it contains.
I can adapt it to my own needs and even change its ingredients and aroma depending on the time of the year.
We live in an area where we get hard winters, so I use this body butter daily for my hands.
I love making as many homemade products as possible; this helps to reduce the number of chemicals we use at home, and it’s also more eco-friendly.
How to make this whipped body butter less greasy?
This body butter is made of butter and oils so it is greasy; I have read in other recipes to add arrowroot powder to get a less greasy texture. I have tried it myself, and it seems to work well; just add a minimum amount to it. I use only a 1/4 teaspoon. This will reduce some of the greasy from the body butter.
How to store my whipped body butter?
Keep the body butter in a cool place, if it gets too hot it can melt the butter (I keep mine under the bathroom cabinet, and seems to work well.)
Can I use another butter or carrier oil to make body butter?
This is a basic recipe, but you can always try different kinds of butter and carrier oils to suit your needs. I like to use light carrier oils, so I used apricot kernel oil or almond oil for this recipe, and I love it!
In this recipe, I use lavender essential oil because it is the best for my family’s needs, but you can try other aromas. I like to avoid citrus essential oil.

Tools
- Stainless Steel bowl or double boiler pot
- Hand mixer
- Spatula
- Glass containers to store the body butter (I use mason jars)
- Measuring cup and spoons
Materials
- 1/4 cup Apricot Kernel oil
- 1/4 cup Coconut oil
- 6 drops Lavender essential oil (Optional)
- 1/4 cup Shea Butter
- 1/4 cup Mango Butter
- 4 drops Vitamin E (optional)
How to make this Body Butter?
Add the butter, coconut oil, and apricot kernel oil to a double boiler container.
Let the mix melt completely. Let it cool down.
Place the mix in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
Whip the body butter with a hand mixer until it gets a fluffy appearance. Add the essential oil and vitamin E and pour the mix into a glass container with a lid.
Useful Tips
- If the mix gets too hard in the freezer, just let it stand at room temperature for a few minutes and it will be soft again.
- If the mix it’s too liquid, it will not be whipped.
- It is better to use a double boiler pot to prepare this recipe, but I don’t have one so I used stainless steel bowl for the mix and put it on top of a saucepan with boiling water.
With every product that we make at home, it is always recommended to try it in a small area first.
