How do I make this Lip Balm?

Place the shea butter, mango butter, coconut oil, apricot kernel oil, and beeswax into a double-boiler container.

Let the mixture melt.

Add the essential oil and vitamin E.

Pour the mix into a lip balm container.

Useful tips

  1. I always disinfect my containers before filling them by spraying them with 70% isopropyl alcohol and let them dry.
  2. If you are reusing your containers, make sure to wash them well before reuse.
  3. If the mix gets hard before finishing pouring it into the tube, just put it back in the double boiler until soft.

With every product that we make at home, it is always recommended to try it in a small area first.

Can I use other ingredients?

Yes, you can use other ingredients. You can always try new carrier oils and kinds of butter and see which feels better on your skin. Same with the essential oils, you can always try new aromas and see how you like them better. I do try to avoid citrus essential oil for my lip balms.

What I like about making my own products at home is that I can use almost the same ingredients for different products. For example, I used almost the same ingredients from my whipped body butter to make this lip balm.

Eco-friendly containers alternatives

Easy to Make DIY Lip Balm eco-friendly containers

The first time I made these lip balms, I wanted to see if I could find eco-friendly containers.

I did find these two container alternatives:

Bamboo lip balm tube: I like this container because it is refillable. It is a little expensive, but I have been using this container for a few years, and still working well.

Cardboard lip balm containers: These containers are single-use, but it is biodegradable. It does not contain a system to push the content out of the container like the regular lip balm. I need to push the bottom part with my finger to get the mixture out of the container. But it is an excellent eco-friendly alternative.

I hope you like this easy-to-make lip balm. You may also like “Homemade Whipped Body Butter.”
