Great Eco-friendly Products – Home Edition!
In this Eco-friendly Products – Home Edition post, we will talk about five eco-friendly product swaps that are easy to make. This is part of a series of posts I have created to share my journey to a more eco-friendly lifestyle that I hope gets you inspired.
The beauty of starting to use eco-friendly products is that it gets more exciting as we continue using them.
With this journey, we started to ask ourselves more questions like, What are the things we buy made of? How biodegradable can this product be? How many times can we reuse this product?
Here are some of the products we switched to a more eco-friendly alternative that I want to share.
Reusable shopping bags

I have been using reusable bags from the supermarket for a long time. I spray to clean and disinfect them after each use, but I found a better alternative! The reusable bags shown in the pictures above are machine washable, which is excellent!
Nylon tote bag: We have been using them for grocery shopping, even with heavy items, and it holds well. They came out in good condition after being washed. I only hang them to dry.
Cotton Net tote bag: It holds well all my groceries. I washed them, and they came out well from the washer, and I always hang all my bags to dry.
I also use these tote bags in different ways; to carry my shopping when I go to the mall, carry my books when I go to the library, and even bring them to the beach! The cotton net tote bags are great for the beach because the sand goes through the holes, and we get less sand to the car or the house.
One of the significant advantages of using these tote bags (other than it is reusable) is that I can wash them, so I know they are clean for subsequent use. These are a great eco-friendly alternatives to plastic bags.
Eco-friendly Cleaning Brush
My plastic brush was completely flat from using it. So, it was an excellent time to try a new eco-friendly alternative.
The brushes handle is made of beechwood, and the bristles are made of Tampico (from the Agave plant).
The bristles are softer than the regular scrub brush but hard enough to clean our bathroom tiles and bathtub. Before buying any brush for tile cleaning, make sure the description says it’s for heavy-duty cleaning and scrubbing. At one point, I had to return another cleaning brush because the bristles were too soft (made for cleaning the dishes).
Ensure that when you buy these types of brushes, the store also sells the replacement head. This is a great eco-friendly alternative to plastic cleaning brushes.
Eco-friendly Floor Mop
I have used this spray mop for years now. The brand I use is Libman.
Benefits:
- It has an easy-to-use Hand Pump, so it doesn’t require batteries.
- It contains a large dispenser so that you can add your favorite cleaning product.
- The head where the floor mop is attached rotates 360 degrees for easy cleaning, not easy-to-reach areas.
- You can buy additional refill pads at the supermarket.
- The floor mop pads are machine washable. I hang them to air dry.
This floor mop has worked wonders for me! One of my favorite things is the freedom to add my natural cleaning products. I feel that this Floor Mop has a modern design with the advantage of the traditional style.
Wool Dryer Ball
I bought this product because our cloth gets a lot of static in wintertime. Laundry dryer sheets were not an option for us because we have a family member with sensitive skin.
These wool dryer balls have worked really well; they have kept their shape after several uses and help my clothes to dry faster.
Benefits:
- Dry my clothes faster, so I save on my electricity bill.
- They are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic.
- They soften my clothes without any chemicals that are normally added to the laundry dryer sheets and softeners.
- It also has an anti-static property.
- It says to last for a really long time.
Swedish Sponge Cloth
I have used all-purpose reusable cloth since my childhood. They work well but don’t last long.
Then, I heard about the Swedish Sponge Cloth. They are made from biodegradable materials (Plant-based cellulose fiber and cotton), which make them biodegradable, so I decided to try them.
This eco-friendly cleaning cloth has been working well for us (They are more sturdy than the all-purpose reusable cloth); I use them to clean my kitchen, windows, bathroom, and general cleaning around the house. I like the texture, and it dries fast. This helps to reduce the use of regular paper towels.
Going eco-friendly doesn’t mean changing everything at once. I’ve been doing this transition one step at a time.
Whenever I need to replace something at home, I research which eco-friendly alternatives are on the market. Sometimes I buy products from different eco-friendly materials to see the benefits each option can provide.
