Pumpkin decorating is a fun family activity. We decided to make a no-carve pumpkin decoration so that these beautiful small pumpkins don’t get damaged and can last longer.

We started thinking about making this Thanksgiving Craft and Halloween Craft as eco-friendly as possible. My daughter and I tried to add as many natural materials as possible and did not add any sealing at the end.

I have to say, this craft was enjoyable to make because you can use so many different kinds of materials. We look into many ideas, and then we start collecting the materials we have at home that we can reuse and nature findings that I started collecting for all my fall and Christmas craft projects.

Materials

  • Small Pumpkins
  • Burlap
  • Ribbons
  • Scissors
  • Paper tube
  • Hot glue machine
  • Hot Glue Stick
  1. Cut the burlap 8″ circle diameter. Cut the paper tube 1 1/2 inch height. Glue the paper tube in the center of the burlap.
  2. Glue jute to the ends of the hat. This will prevent the burlap from unraveling.
  3. Decorate your hat with ribbon, jute, flowers, dried wheat stalks, or any decor supply you may have at home.
  4. Print the face on paper and glue it to the pumpkin. I use brown yarn to make the mouth and eyebrows.

Materials

  • Small Pumpkins
  • Ribbons
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue machine
  • Hot glue stick
  • Maple leaves
  • White paint
  1. Paint your maple leaves white and let them dry.
  2. Paint their faces with markers. Cut small golden circles to decorate around the ghost.
  3. Glue the ghost leaves, dots, and ribbon to the pumpkin.

Useful Tips

  1. If you are working with little kids, help them by managing the hot glue.
  2. Wash all pumpkins well before decorating, so it will eliminate any dust or grease that can interfere with the glue.
  3. Let the pumpkins dry completely before decorating them.
  4. You can also use gold, black, and white ribbons for the ghost pumpkin.
  5. Because we are not using sealing for this project, I will recommend keeping the pumpkins protected under the roof to avoid contact with water.

  1. Wonderful ideas! I love the look of the burlap hat..super cute. I like that after the season, you are still able to cook the pumpkins to make a desert or side dish.

  2. These are cute Ada! I love the cat one!
Sometimes carving a pumpkin is just so much work. I’ve used paint or a Sharpie before, but the problem with that is then you can’t compost them after. Yours look like you might be able to pop off the hot glue and compost the pumpkin when it starts to rot, so that looks like a great option!

  3. Aww cute ideas! I have been avoiding carving our pumpkins so I don’t have to deal with the mess, and I never thought about doing something like this!

  4. I love your ideas. Your pumpkin decorations are so cute, and look easy which is what I need. Thanks for sharing.
