Tips for a more Eco-friendly Camping
Going camping is a beautiful experience. Walking in nature, sleeping in the middle of the forest, listening to the birds, and breathing fresh air. We enjoyed not only the tranquility of nature, but also we made this trip as environmentally friendly as possible. In this post, we will talk about great tips for a more eco-friendly camping experience.
I love spending time and creating memories with my family, so we try to go camping when it is possible.
We drove by some farms on our way to the campsite; the scenery was breathtaking. The green landscapes, animals running around eating the grass, and fresh fruit and vegetables sold by farmers on the road created a fantastic experience.
How to be more eco-friendly while camping?
There are many ways to be more environmentally friendly while we are enjoying this beautiful trip. For example, preparing our food in advance and packing them in glass containers that we will bring back home, or buying biodegradable products in the market. Let’s talk about some tips for a more eco-friendly camping that I have found.
Preparing food in advance

This works great for us for so many reasons:
- Preparing the food at home, gave me more time to relax at the campsite instead of cooking.
- It is really convenient to have the sink nearby while preparing the food at home.
- I can season my food with all spices I have in my kitchen.
- The food was ready faster at the campsite. This is especially good when we are cooking dinner after an adventurous day walking or in the river.
- I prepared the menu for this trip in advance.
Buying as many biodegradable products as possible.
Camping (in a tent) doesn’t come with the same facilities we have in the comfort of our home. In this case, we use some single-use items to reduce the need to wash plates and cutlery at the campsite.
We found the best way to keep our trip as eco-friendly as possible was to buy biodegradable utensils, plates, and paper, among others.
Here is a list of biodegradable items I found for this trip:
- Compostable plates
- Recycled Paper towel
- Compostable Cups
- Cutlery Compostable
- Compostable bowls
I also brought our food prepared in advance in glass containers. I discovered that glass containers were easier to clean for me at the park’s facilities.
Other kitchen utensils we brought for foods that can only be prepared at the moment:
- Saucepan and whisk (to prepare hot chocolate)
- Small cutting board
- A set of silver utensils
My following list is about using, reusing, and recycling:
- Reusable table cloth
- Eco-friendly dish soap and sponge
- We also separated the garbage and recycling into two different bags. The park has a recycling container on site.
Enjoying the trails
The forest is a beautiful place to explore. In this park, they carefully mark the path to follow. The scenery is amazing, and you can find so many different plants and animals on your way.
As we enjoyed our trip and walked around the park, we brought snacks and water bottles to keep us going and hydrated. We found the easiest and most comfortable way to carry these items by bringing a backpack. This allows us to keep the packaging and empty bottles in the backpack until we arrive at our campsite for proper disposal.
Eco-friendly toiletries
This was easy for us because we already started changing our home products to a more eco-friendly alternatives, so we just need to add them to the list to bring to the campsite.
If you are planning in advance and I would recommend trying the new eco-friendly products at home before your trip. Like any product, they will be some that will work better for you than others based on your needs. Usually, there are not many stores around a campsite, so it’s better to know what are you packing for your vacation.
Some of the eco-friendly toiletries we bring are:
- Shampoo and conditioner bar
- Bar soap
- Shave soap
- Sunscreen
- Toothpaste
I hope this inspires you to make small changes to reduce our environmental footprint while enjoying Nature.
