Eco-friendly School Supplies
Have your kids school started classes yet? We are a week away from starting classes in our area, and we have begun to buy the basic school supplies that are almost a must every year. In this process, I have found wonderful eco-friendly school supplies alternatives that I love, and I like to share with you.

This is the time of the year when school starts, and we are running around buying everything our kids need for back to school.
As I was looking for different alternatives, I found great eco-friendly products that not only work well but also have a great design. Let me share these great finds.
Eco-friendly Scissors

We know that this item is the one that is never missed on the school supplies list. Looking into a more eco-friendly alternative, I found these scissors whose handles are made of corn plastic, which is biodegradable.
Another advantage of these scissors is that they come in a cardboard package. How often do you need to use other scissors to open the plastic container of a new scissor? Yes, this always makes me think, what if I don’t have a spare scissor? I always struggle to open those hard plastic covers every time. But this company thought on this part too. It comes with a cardboard package that is biodegradable and easier to open!!!
Notebook and pencil

Next on the list are notebooks and pencils. These are two essential items that we have been using all our lives throughout our education.
What do I look for when buying these products? I try to look for the ones that use recyclable materials, which means fewer trees to cut down and less paper thrown into landfills.
Another way I make this purchase zero waste is by reusing the paper at the end of the school year to make handmade paper from recycled paper, which I can also use to make handmade cards.
Wood and metal Rulers

How many times has it happened to you that you put a plastic ruler in your kid’s backpack and come back broken?
I found that, in my experience, eco-friendly alternatives are more durable than plastics one. I love metal and wood rulers. Metal rulers are super durable and recyclable. I have had a metal ruler for 12 years, and I still use it.
Another eco-friendly alternative is wood rulers; they are soft and biodegradable because they are made of wood.
Lunch boxes and water bottles

Last on my list, this year are lunch boxes and water bottles. For lunch boxes, there is a variety of eco-friendly alternatives, from metal boxes to wood. I particularly like to use reusable storage bags, like the one I show in the picture above, because they are light, so it doesn’t add weight to the already heavy backpack filled with books and supplies.
For the water bottle, I looked at the glass water bottle, but I felt that it could break if it fell out of the backpack, so I decided on a stainless steel bottle.
These are just small swaps that I have found, but there are many more. Let us know in the comments below if you have more eco-friendly school supplies ideas to share!
