Five Eco-friendly Dog Products that I like

We love our little Yorkie; she is part of the family, and being part of the family also includes buying products for her regularly. Let’s include our beloved pets in our journey to a more conscious and eco-friendly way of living. I will share five eco-friendly dog products that have helped me include our pet in this eco-friendly journey.

Let me introduce you to our model for this post, our 5lb eleven years old Yorkie. She is the cutest thing in the world and loves to cuddle in our arms all the time. She has been part of this family since she was four months old.

Having a pet at home is a blessing; they bring so much love, and kids learn how to care for and be responsible around them. My mom loves animals too, so I grew up with dogs and cats all my life.

Dog’s needs may depend on where you live and your lifestyle. If you like to go fishing, you may need a dog life jacket, or if you live in a place with hard winters like us, you may need a dog winter jacket. It also depends on the kind of dog you have; for example, some dog breeds can adapt more easily to cold weather than others.

I would like to share some eco-friendly dog products alternative I found that have worked great for us. This way, we will pamper our dogs and our planet as well.

1. Dog Grooming Brush

My little dog has long hair, so this was necessary to get a hairbrush. I got this wood dog brush many years ago. I will say this brush has my dog’s age, so I have had it for 11 years; it works great and is still in really good condition. Nowadays, you can find a more variety of this kind of dog brush like this one.

I like to use a wood dog brush for many reasons. The First one will be the material because it is made of wood and not plastic, which means that we are contributing to reducing the amount of plastic on the planet. The Second is durability; I have had this brush for 11 years! And last, the texture; it is easy to grab and feels good in your hand.

2. Dog Soap / Shampoo

I need to admit that the first shampoos I used on her were regular commercial dog shampoo. As time passed, I changed it to all-natural ingredients liquid dog shampoo, which was good for my dog, but the package was in a plastic container.

I tried a dog bar soap for a while now. I like to use a dog soap bar made with natural ingredients; it also comes in an eco-friendly package and lasts longer.

Each dog has its own needs. Because my dog has sensitive skin, I try to look for soft natural ingredients.

3. Pet Bowls

We use this so frequently that I was looking not only for an eco-friendly material but also for the product’s durability.

As we are trying to avoid plastic containers at home, we got these stainless steel dog feeder bowls from a pet store. Stainless steel bowls are easy to clean and durable.

Another eco-friendly alternative will be ceramic bowls.

4. Eco-friendly Dog waste bags

We all know we need to pick up after our dogs. While looking into eco-friendly alternatives, I found these compostable dog waste bags that have worked great for us. This is a great alternative to plastic base bags.

5. Eco-friendly Dog Training Pads

Living in a city that snows almost half of the year is a little challenging for her. She is so small that she sinks into the snow easily, so she doesn’t like to go outside as much in winter.

Thankfully we train our dog to do number two inside (on a training pad) and outside (on the grass.) This way, we can keep her safe indoors on snowstorms or freezing days.

As I continued looking for better alternatives to the dog training pads, I realized that the base had to be plastic to not go through the floor. The dog training pads we buy are dye-free and bleach-free, and 50% of the liners are made from recycled materials.

Another eco-friendly alternative we have tried is using newspapers. Many years ago, this method was the one we used the most, but as technology advances, there is less common to see newspapers around.

I hope these eco-friendly dog products can be helpful in your journey to a more eco-friendly lifestyle. You may also like “Great Eco-friendly Products – Home Edition.”
