Beautiful centerpiece with Natural Materials

Creating this beautiful centerpiece using natural materials is simple and enjoyable. This Eco-friendly craft will not only add a touch of Mother Nature’s beauty and fragrance but also will brighten your table for any special occasion.

I love making crafts. I remember spending hours creating every detail for my daughter’s birthday parties and decorations for my work and volunteer fundraising events.

But this year, I wanted to create something even more special. I want to create my own centerpiece with natural elements. There are so many things that we can use to create a centerpiece with natural materials.

What things can I use to make a centerpiece?

I mentioned some of these elements in this post, but there are many more! For example,

I use corn to top the candle base, but we can use small stones.

Additionally, I repurpose plates I already own as the foundation for the centerpiece. As part of my creative process, I maintain a dedicated box at home to collect items discovered during my afternoon walks that can be incorporated into this project. I make a conscious effort to source these natural treasures from the ground rather than directly from living plants.

We also contribute positively to our planet by using natural materials and/or reusing materials we already have at home.

Will I save money?

Yes, I did save money. I bought natural mini pumpkins ($2.99 a pack of 6) for this post to make this centerpiece as natural as possible, but you can also repaint an artificial one that you may already have at home and reuse it every year.

I used the paint and brushes that I already have at home from previous projects. Plates and glass jars from my kitchen and the candle only cost $2.99.

And of course, we can’t forget the beautiful presents our mother nature brings to us.

We saved money by reusing some of the pieces for the next season. The post is coming up during the holiday season.

What benefits does it bring to work with natural materials?

  • It introduces the delightful, natural fragrance of dried citrus and cinnamon sticks.
  • Eco-friendly craft by using materials from Mother Nature.
  • This project also makes an enjoyable activity to do with our children, promoting creativity and a deeper connection to nature.

Materials

How do I make this beautiful centerpiece with Natural Materials?

Dried Oranges and lime

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°F. Cut thin slices of oranges and lime and place them on a baking tray.
  2. Pat dry the citrus with a clean towel or kitchen paper towel to remove some of the liquid from each slice.

3. Bake for 4 hours or until it dries. I rotate them every hour.

Painting real pumpkins and acorns

painting a mini pumpkin
  1. Clean the pumpkins and acorns well. Apply one hand of Acrylic-paint white color and let it dry. I recommend starting from the bottom of the pumpkin, allowing it to dry, and then flipping it to paint the top. Be careful not to paint the stem!
  2. After the pumpkins and acorns dry, apply the color of your choice. I had blue and gold at home, which matched my home color palette.

3. Let it dry completely before putting them on the table.

Candle Holder

  1. I use a glass mason jar for the candle. Filled 3/4 with white sand and 1/4 with corn.
  2. Place the wax or flameless candle in the middle.

Creating the centerpiece: Two different designs

This is the fun part! Use your imagination and all your findings to decorate your fall season centerpiece! Try different pieces and designs until you are happy with the final result.

This centerpiece can be arranged in many ways. Below, I demonstrated two different designs.

The first one has a rustic base and pumpkins inside the plate. In contrast with the burlap runner, I used a white mat under the container to highlight the centerpiece.

I added a white ceramic bowl in the second one, and the pumpkins are beside the centerpiece. In this one, I used a gold placemat under the white bowl to have a slight contrast.

Useful tips

  1. Cover the table you are working on with a protective tablecloth.
  2. You can also use flameless candles for this centerpiece. I have found some flameless candles powered by AA batteries, which go well, as I have rechargeable batteries at home.
  3. Make sure to clean well all the things we bring from Mother Nature. I like to wash them with a little dish soap.
  4. Let the citrus slices dry well. You can use a food dehydrator. I don’t have one at home, so I did it in the oven, and it came out really well.
  5. Place the citrus peels directly on the oven rack for fast and better drying.
  6. Water paint is the one I use to paint the pumpkins.
  7. Do not paint the pumpkins if you want to put them in the compost later.
  8. You can always use the pumpkins in their natural color.
