Easy to make Powder Laundry Detergent
This easy-to-make Powder Laundry Detergent makes my clothes clean and fresh. A more natural way to wash our clothes.
In my journey to a more eco-friendly and natural living, I wanted to make my own laundry detergent. I heard about people using baking soda as a laundry detergent, and I decided to try and see if this would work for us.
It has worked great for us, my clothes are clean, fresh, and I like that I know which ingredients are added to this product.
Benefits of Using Baking Soda for powder laundry detergent
Baking Soda has a variety of uses. I use it in many different ways, from my kitchen as part of my cake recipe to our shoes for odor control.
However, this is the first time I have used Baking Soda as part of my laundry detergent. Here are some of the benefits I have found so far by using Baking Soda for laundry:
- Cleanser and deodorizer: By balancing the pH of the water, it helps the grease and dirt to dissolve easier and brings odor molecules into a neutral.
- Gentle wash: By softening the water, your clothes will be gently washed, which means you will have a more lasting fabric.
- Color booster: My whites come whiter, and my colors clothes keep their colors.
- Softener: By balancing the pH of the water, it creates a natural softener for clothes.
Washing Soda
Washing Soda is a laundry booster. It is highly alkaline, which helps with stain removal!
Castile Bar Soap
Castile soap is made with plant-based ingredients and organic oils. They are gentle to the skin and help wash away all the dirt from our clothes.
Essential Oil (optional)
Each essential oil has its own benefits. I use it in my laundry powder to add a mellow fragrance. The essential oil I use is Lavender adding freshness to my clothes. To better combine the essential oil to the mix, I add a small amount of baking soda into a container and add the essential oil there. Mix it well and add it with the rest of the ingredients.

How much do you put into a load of clothes?
Hi Kassidy, I use 2-3 tablespoons per load. But you may want to add more or less based on the number of clothes you add.
