Since my teenage years, I have liked to get my nails done from time to time, so I had a few nail polishes at home. Now is my daughter’s turn. She started to paint her nails, so I decided to look for a healthier alternative in the market.
I remember seeing vegan nail polish a few years ago, but I thought it wouldn’t work well. One day I said, “well, nothing to lose, let me try one.” To my surprise, they were excellent, and they have beautiful colors as well!
Now, I have to say I’m comparing these vegan alternatives with regular nail polishes, not to the gel ones that endure more than two weeks and need to add UV light to work.
I have bought different brands with time, so this was an excellent opportunity to tell you about my experience using this vegan alternative. I have seen some changes throughout the years like they are more durable and they have added beautiful colors!
Note that the ones I will mention below are the brands I have bought throughout the years, but there are many more brands that I haven’t tried yet. It is beautiful to see more and more brands are changing to this new alternative.
Why did I want to swap to a vegan nail polish alternative?
As part of my journey to a more eco-friendly and natural lifestyle, I wanted to use as many natural or non-toxic products as possible. As I mentioned before, I have made these changes progressively, so I started throwing out my old dried nail polish that doesn’t work anymore and buying this more natural alternative.
I like to make my own Nail Spa at home by soaking my feet in warm water with homemade lavender bath salt before I paint my nails.
Which Brands have I used?
- Essie
- Pure by Sally Hansen
- BKIND
- Mineral Fusion
Does Vegan Nail Polish work?
Some notes I need to add before I start writing about these Nail Polishes are:
- To show the durability of these nail polishes I did not cover them with a top coat which may protect them even more.
- I have been doing regular activities like washing my dishes, going outside, and working on the computer, just to mention a few.
After five days of use, as shown in the picture above, they just started to chip on the corners.
Durability: They started to chip almost the same time as the non-vegan version I used to use before. The durability is pretty good, taking into consideration that they are vegan.
Colors: The variety of color that they have come out with are gorgeous! From mate to glossy, I like them all. They also offer a vegan base and topcoat.
Quality: Some lighter colors may need an extra coat, But I remember I had to do the same with the non-vegan version.
Vegan Nail Polish Remover
I know this is not a Nail Polish, but it goes together. I also wanted to try a vegan version of a nail polish remover. This vegan nail polish remover works great! They are vegan and acetone-free. To remove the nail polish, I use organic cotton.
Using more natural products brings us the opportunity to contribute to the planet because there are fewer chemicals add it to the land and fewer chemicals that we add to ourselves. Let me know in the comments below if you have tried any Vegan Nail Polish and how it works for you.
Excited to try one of these out. I tossed all of my other nail polishes slowly over time, but I would like to have at least a few options on hand for those special at home spa days.
Thank you Julie! Yes, I don’t have that many either but love how they come out with this vegan version.
I need this! I’ve been making a concerted effort to be smarter with my fingernails and in general not wanting toxic products around my kids. Thanks!
Thank you Julie! I’m glad this was helpful!
